Verify Your Interactive Brokers Track Record Without a Password
Can you verify your Interactive Brokers trading track record without giving anyone your password? Yes. You link the account read-only through SnapTrade, and the sign-in happens on Interactive Brokers' own screen, so PickVesting never sees or stores your brokerage password. From that point every position in the linked account is reconciled into a public record that updates nightly, and you get a URL you can share from anywhere.
This guide is for the trader who is tired of screenshots proving nothing. It explains the mechanism, what read-only actually means, what your record will show, and what to check after you link. The exact IBKR screens vary and change, so this is not a button-by-button walkthrough. It is a map of how the connection works and what you own at the end.
How the connection works without a password
You never type your Interactive Brokers password into PickVesting. The link is made through SnapTrade, and the actual sign-in happens on your broker's own screen. PickVesting never sees or stores a brokerage password at any point in the flow.
Here is the shape of it:
- You start the link from PickVesting and choose Interactive Brokers.
- You are handed to Interactive Brokers' own authentication, where you sign in and authorise read-only access.
- Control returns to PickVesting with a read-only connection, nothing more.
The connection secret that keeps the link alive is sealed with AES-256-GCM before it is stored. You can revoke the connection at any time, either from the app or from Interactive Brokers directly. The same mechanism links other brokerages too: Robinhood, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, E\*TRADE, Webull, tastytrade, and more, read-only via SnapTrade. If you want the deeper version, read Is Read-Only Brokerage Linking Safe? What PickVesting Can and Cannot See.
What "read-only" actually means
Read-only means the connection can read your history and holdings and nothing else. It cannot place trades, it cannot move money, and it cannot change settings.
This is the part worth being precise about, because "link your broker" sounds alarming until you know the boundary. A read-only connection is a one-way mirror. PickVesting can see what the account did. It cannot act on the account. There is no mechanism in the connection for placing an order or initiating a transfer.
| The connection can | The connection cannot |
|---|---|
| Read your trade history | Place or cancel trades |
| Read current holdings | Move or withdraw money |
| Compute metrics nightly | Change account settings |
Because the link is read-only and revocable, the honest answer to "is this safe" is that you keep the keys. You grant a view, and you can take it back.
What your verified record will show
Your record covers the whole linked account, not a hand-picked slice. Every position is reconciled: stocks, options, and crypto, including option contracts that expired worthless.
That last detail matters more than anything else on this page. Screenshot culture survives by showing winners and quietly dropping losers. A record built from the whole account cannot do that. The trades that went to zero are in the record next to the trades that worked.
Metrics are computed nightly from closed positions:
- Time-weighted return
- Win rate
- Max drawdown
Each is shown over 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, and all time. A figure never appears on its own. Every return is shown with how long the record has been verified and how many closed positions it covers, so a shiny number with two trades behind it reads as exactly that. For the full method, see How PickVesting Calculates Return, Win Rate, and Max Drawdown.
Snapshots are append-only. A correction is a new row, and nothing already recorded is rewritten. You cannot quietly edit a bad week out of your own history, and neither can anyone else. You can see how verified records look on Discover before you link anything.
Your profile tells the truth about what is linked
A record proves what happened in the linked accounts, and your profile makes that scope visible. Every profile states how many brokerage accounts are linked, so an account you did not link shows up as an absence rather than a secret.
This cuts both ways, and it is deliberate. If you trade across several accounts and only link one, the record is honest about that. Nobody has to take your word for which account the numbers came from. The number of linked accounts is printed where readers can see it.
If you later disconnect, the record keeps everything up to that day and shows the gap after it. Disconnecting never erases history. You cannot use the connection as an undo button for a drawdown, because the record you already built stays, and the stop point is marked.
Publishing ideas against positions you actually hold
Verification is one thing; selling ideas is another, and on PickVesting an idea is tied to a position you actually hold. The position is the disclosure, and the entry price comes from the brokerage fill, not from a text box you type into.
A few guardrails sit around this:
- Ideas on very small or illiquid names are refused before they publish. Specifically, stocks under $300M market cap, under 20M shares of float, or under 500K average daily volume will not go through.
- Reducing a published position within 48 hours is flagged for review, and every sale after publication is watched. The intent is simple: you cannot publish a call and quietly sell into the people who followed it without it being visible.
- A green seal means a live brokerage link currently vouches for the position behind the idea. A yellow seal means a demo account, test data, or a lapsed connection, and the line next to the seal says which.
That seal is the difference between "trust me" and "a brokerage link currently backs this." For how creators build on top of this, read How Trading Creators Prove Their Record and Monetise an Audience.
What it costs and where you keep posting
Verification is free, permanently. You can link Interactive Brokers and publish a verified record URL without paying anything.
Selling access is optional and separate. If you choose to sell VIP access, PickVesting keeps 15% of VIP revenue and the rest is paid out through Stripe. You keep posting wherever your audience already is, on X, YouTube, Discord, and Whop, and link the record from there. Readers can follow for free, subscribe for ideas, or join VIP for the inner circle. The verified URL is the proof that sits under all of it.
What this still does not prove
A verified record is evidence of what happened, not a forecast or a safety rating. Be clear about its limits before you lean on it, and so your readers can be too.
- It proves what happened in the linked accounts only. It says nothing about accounts that are not linked.
- It does not know a reader's suitability, position size, or taxes.
- It does not predict the next trade or future results.
- It does not vouch for the quality of advice in a chat room.
- A follower's fill price differs from yours. PickVesting does not place trades for anyone and does not offer copy trading.
A clean, long, whole-account record earns attention. It does not hand anyone a reason to copy a trade without thinking. That line is where proof ends and judgement begins.
Ready to verify
If you trade on Interactive Brokers and you are done arguing with screenshots, you can link a brokerage and publish a verified record in a read-only connection that never exposes your password. Your whole account becomes the proof, computed nightly, at a URL that is yours.

Questions people ask
Does PickVesting ever see my Interactive Brokers password?
No. You sign in on Interactive Brokers' own screen through SnapTrade, and PickVesting never sees or stores your brokerage password. The connection that results is read-only, and the stored connection secret is sealed with AES-256-GCM.
Can the connection trade or withdraw money from my IBKR account?
No. The connection is read-only. It can read your history and holdings and nothing else. It cannot place trades, move money, or change account settings, and you can revoke it at any time from the app or from your broker.
Can I choose which trades appear in my verified record?
No. The record covers the whole linked account, every position, including options that expired worthless. Snapshots are append-only, so a correction is a new row and nothing already recorded is rewritten.
What happens to my record if I disconnect Interactive Brokers?
The record keeps everything up to the day you disconnect and then shows the gap after that point. Disconnecting never erases history. Your profile also states how many accounts are linked, so an unlinked account is a visible absence.
Do I have to pay to verify my track record?
No. Verification is free, permanently. You can link Interactive Brokers and publish a verified record URL without paying. Selling VIP access is optional, and if you do, PickVesting keeps 15% of VIP revenue with the rest paid out through Stripe.
Can readers copy my trades through PickVesting?
No. PickVesting does not place trades for anyone and does not offer copy trading. A follower's fill price differs from yours. Readers can follow, subscribe for ideas, or join VIP, but they act in their own accounts.
