How to Verify Your Fidelity Trading Record Without Sharing a Password

Can you verify your Fidelity trading track record without giving anyone your password? Yes. You link Fidelity through a read-only connection made with SnapTrade, and you enter your credentials on Fidelity's own sign-in screen, not on PickVesting. PickVesting never sees or stores your brokerage password. From that connection, PickVesting builds a public record of the whole linked account, computed from real fills and updated nightly.

This is a guide for a Fidelity customer who posts trade ideas and wants proof instead of screenshots. The screens vary by broker and change over time, so this post describes the mechanism, not the menus. The same mechanism links every supported brokerage.

What read-only linking actually means

Read-only means the connection can look but not touch. When you link Fidelity, PickVesting requests access to two things: your holdings and your transaction history. That is the whole scope.

The connection cannot:

  • place trades or cancel them
  • move money in or out
  • change any account setting

Because the access is read-only, the worst it can do is read. It reports what you already did. The connection secret is sealed with AES-256-GCM before it is stored, and you can revoke the connection at any time, from the PickVesting app or from Fidelity directly. If you want the longer version of what a read-only link can and cannot see, we wrote it up in Is Read-Only Brokerage Linking Safe? What PickVesting Can and Cannot See.

How the link works, without touching your password

The sign-in happens on Fidelity's own screen. That is the part that matters for security.

Here is the flow at a high level:

  1. You start a connection in PickVesting and choose Fidelity.
  2. You are handed to Fidelity's own authentication screen, run through SnapTrade, the service that powers the connection.
  3. You enter your credentials there, on Fidelity, and approve read-only access.
  4. Control returns to PickVesting, which now holds a read-only token, never your password.

Because you authenticate on the broker's side, PickVesting never sees the password you typed. The connection SnapTrade returns is scoped to reading history and holdings. This is the same path used by Robinhood, Charles Schwab, E\*TRADE, Interactive Brokers, Webull, Vanguard and more, read-only via SnapTrade. Fidelity is one of the examples on the home page, not a special case.

What the verified record will show

Once linked, the record covers the whole account, not a hand-picked slice. Every position is reconciled into it: stocks, options, and crypto, including option contracts that expired worthless. You cannot quietly leave out the losers, because the record is the account.

Metrics are computed nightly from closed positions:

  • time-weighted return
  • win rate
  • max drawdown

Each is shown over 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, and all time. A figure never appears on its own. Every return is paired with how long the record has been verified and how many closed positions it covers, so a reader can tell a real sample from a lucky week. The exact formulas are laid out in How PickVesting Calculates Return, Win Rate, and Max Drawdown.

Two more properties are worth knowing before you link:

  • Snapshots are append-only. A correction is a new row. Nothing already recorded gets rewritten, so the history is a ledger, not a draft you can edit.
  • Disconnecting never erases history. If you revoke the connection, the record keeps everything up to that day and shows the gap after it. You cannot delete a bad stretch by unplugging.

Why the whole account matters for your credibility

A record built from the whole account is worth more to a sceptical reader than one built from a highlight reel. That is the entire point of verifying.

Screenshot culture lets anyone crop. A winning ticket photographs the same whether it was one bet among fifty or the only trade of the month. A brokerage-verified record removes that choice. Every profile also states how many brokerage accounts are linked, so an unlinked account is a visible absence rather than a secret. A reader can see that you linked one account and reason accordingly, or see that you linked more.

That visibility cuts both ways, which is the honest part of the deal. It protects your good numbers from the suspicion that they were cherry-picked, and it stops you from hiding the account where the losses live. What to check after you link

After the connection completes, spend a few minutes confirming the record matches reality. This is the same check any careful creator would run.

  • Positions reconcile. Open trades and recent closes should match what you see in Fidelity. If something is missing, the connection may not have pulled the full history yet.
  • The account count is right. Your profile shows how many brokerage accounts are linked. If you trade in more than one account and only want one on the record, know that the others are a visible absence.
  • The verified-since date and closed-position count read as you expect. These are the context lines shown next to every return.
  • The connection status. A live link keeps updating nightly. If it lapses, the record shows the gap.

If you later publish trade ideas, the seal next to each idea tells readers what stands behind it. A green seal means a live brokerage link currently vouches for the position behind the idea. A yellow seal means a demo account, test data, or a lapsed connection, and the line next to the seal says which. An idea can only be published against a real position you actually hold, and the entry price comes from the brokerage fill, not a text box.

What it costs

Verification is free, permanently. You can link a brokerage and publish a verified record without paying anything, and share that public URL from X, YouTube, Discord or Whop.

Selling access is optional. Readers can follow for free, subscribe for ideas, or join VIP for the inner circle. If you sell VIP access, PickVesting keeps 15% of VIP revenue and the rest is paid out through Stripe. You can also see how verified records look on Discover before you decide to link anything.

What this still does not prove

A verified record is evidence of what happened, not a forecast or a safety rating.

  • It proves what happened in the linked accounts. It says nothing about accounts you did not link.
  • It does not predict your next trade or future results.
  • It does not know a reader's suitability, position size, or taxes.
  • It does not vouch for the quality of advice in a chat room.
  • A follower's fill price differs from yours. PickVesting does not place trades for anyone and does not offer copy trading.

A clean, whole-account record answers one question well: what did this trader actually do, in a place that could not be cropped. That is a real answer, and it is a narrow one.

Questions people ask

Does PickVesting see my Fidelity login details?

No. You sign in on Fidelity's own authentication screen, run through SnapTrade, and enter your credentials there. PickVesting receives a read-only token, never your password, and the connection secret is sealed with AES-256-GCM before it is stored.

Can the connection place trades or withdraw money from my Fidelity account?

No. The connection is read-only. It can read your holdings and transaction history and nothing else. It cannot place or cancel trades, move money, or change any account setting. You can revoke it at any time from the app or from Fidelity.

Can I hide my losing trades from the record?

No. The record covers the whole linked account: every position, including stocks, options, and crypto, and option contracts that expired worthless. Snapshots are append-only, so nothing already recorded gets rewritten, and disconnecting keeps the history up to that day and shows the gap afterward.

Is verifying my Fidelity record free?

Yes. Verification is free, permanently. You can link a brokerage and publish a verified record URL without paying. Selling VIP access is optional; if you do, PickVesting keeps 15% of VIP revenue and the rest is paid out through Stripe.

Do other brokerages link the same way as Fidelity?

Yes. The read-only flow through SnapTrade is the same for supported brokerages including Robinhood, Charles Schwab, E\*TRADE, Interactive Brokers, Webull, Vanguard, and more. In each case you authenticate on the broker's own screen and grant read-only access.

What happens to my record if I disconnect Fidelity?

Disconnecting never erases history. The record keeps everything up to the day you revoke the connection and shows the gap after it. You cannot delete a bad stretch by unplugging, which is what makes the history trustworthy to readers.
