How to Verify Your E*TRADE Trading Record Without a Password
Can you verify your ETRADE trading track record without giving anyone your password? Yes. You sign in on ETRADE's own screen through a connection provider called SnapTrade and grant read-only access, and PickVesting never sees or stores your brokerage password. From that point, your linked account becomes a public record with returns, win rate, and drawdown computed from your actual closed positions.
This guide is for ETRADE customers who post trades and want proof that holds up to a sceptic. It explains the mechanism, not ETRADE's menus. The exact screens vary by broker and change over time, so below we describe what read-only access means, what the record will show, and what to check once it is live. Other supported brokerages link the same way.
How the link works without a password
You never type your ETRADE password into PickVesting. The sign-in happens on ETRADE's own screen, reached through SnapTrade, the connection layer PickVesting uses.
Here is the sequence at a high level:
- You start the link from PickVesting and choose E*TRADE.
- You are handed off to E*TRADE's own authentication screen to sign in.
- You grant read-only access.
- The connection returns, and PickVesting begins building your record from your real holdings and history.
The credential never passes through PickVesting. The connection secret that keeps the link alive is sealed with AES-256-GCM before it is stored. If you want a deeper walk-through of what this access layer can and cannot reach, read Is Read-Only Brokerage Linking Safe? What PickVesting Can and Cannot See.
What "read-only" actually means
Read-only means the connection can read and nothing else. It can see your history and holdings. It cannot place trades, move money, or change account settings.
That is the whole point for a trader who is cautious about third-party tools. A read-only link removes the two things people fear most: unauthorised trades and withdrawals. Neither is possible through this connection because the permission to do them was never granted.
You also stay in control after the fact. You can revoke the connection at any time, either from the PickVesting app or from E*TRADE directly. Revoking stops new data flowing in. It does not erase what was already verified, which matters, and we cover why below.
What the record will show once E*TRADE is linked
Once linked, the record covers the whole account, not a flattering slice of it. Every position is reconciled: stocks, options, and crypto, including option contracts that expired worthless.
That last detail is where screenshot culture falls apart. A screenshot shows the winners. A verified record shows the whole account, so the losers that expired to zero are counted too. Metrics are computed nightly from your closed positions:
- Time-weighted return
- Win rate
- Max drawdown
Each is shown over 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, and all time. And a figure never appears on its own. Every return is paired with how long the record has been verified and how many closed positions it covers, so a reader can tell a seasoned record from a lucky week. The exact arithmetic is laid out in How PickVesting Calculates Return, Win Rate, and Max Drawdown.
Snapshots are append-only. If something needs correcting, the fix is a new row. Nothing already recorded gets rewritten, so the history cannot be quietly edited into something prettier.
Why disconnecting does not erase your history
You can disconnect whenever you want, and your record keeps everything up to that day. After it, the record shows the gap rather than hiding it.
This cuts both ways, and that is deliberate. You are never trapped in the connection. But you also cannot use disconnect-and-reconnect to scrub a bad stretch. The gap is visible, and so is the fact that an account was once linked and no longer is.
There is a related honesty feature. Every profile states how many brokerage accounts are linked. So an account you choose not to link is a visible absence, not a secret. A reader who sees one linked account knows the record speaks for that account and no other.
Publishing ideas against real E*TRADE positions
Beyond the record itself, you can publish trade ideas, and an idea can only point at a real position you actually hold. The position is the disclosure.
A few rules keep ideas honest:
- The entry price comes from your brokerage fill, not a text box you fill in later.
- Ideas on very thin names are refused before they publish: under $300M market cap, under 20M shares of float, or under 500K average daily volume.
- Reducing a published position within 48 hours is flagged for review, and every sale after publication is watched.
Each idea carries a seal. A green seal means a live brokerage link currently vouches for the position behind the idea. A yellow seal means a demo account, test data, or a lapsed connection, and the line next to the seal says which. That removes the guesswork for a reader deciding whether the proof is live.
What it costs and how creators use it
Verification is free, permanently. You can link a brokerage and publish a verified record without paying anything, and share the public URL wherever you already post.
Selling access is optional. If you choose to run VIP, PickVesting keeps 15% of VIP revenue and the rest is paid out through Stripe. Readers can follow for free, subscribe for ideas, or join VIP. You keep posting on X, YouTube, Discord, and Whop, and link the verified record from there so your audience can check the claim instead of trusting the screenshot. For the full picture of how this fits a content workflow, see How Trading Creators Prove Their Record and Monetise an Audience. You can also see how verified records look on Discover before you link anything.
E*TRADE is one example on the home page. Robinhood, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, Interactive Brokers, Webull, tastytrade, Public, Vanguard, TradeStation, Alpaca, Wealthsimple, Questrade, and more link the same way, read-only via SnapTrade.
What to check after you link
Once the link is live, do a quick self-audit so your record reads the way you expect:
- Confirm the account that showed up is the one you meant to link.
- Check that the linked-account count on your profile matches your intent.
- Look at the closed-position count and verified-since date next to your returns.
- Confirm your ideas carry a green seal when the connection is live.
What this still does not prove
A verified record proves what happened in the linked account. It says nothing about accounts you did not link, which is why the linked-account count is shown in the open.
It also does not know your readers. A record does not know a reader's suitability, position size, or taxes, and it does not predict the next trade or future results. It does not vouch for the quality of advice in a chat room. And because a follower's fill price differs from yours, PickVesting does not place trades for anyone and does not offer copy trading. The proof is about the past of one account, not a promise about anyone's future.
PickVesting is not an investment adviser and does not provide personalised investment advice. Past performance is not a prediction of future results.
Questions people ask
Does PickVesting ever see my E*TRADE password?
No. You sign in on E*TRADE's own screen through SnapTrade, and PickVesting never sees or stores your brokerage password. The connection secret that keeps the link alive is sealed with AES-256-GCM before it is stored.
Can the connection trade or withdraw money from my E*TRADE account?
No. The connection is read-only. It can read your history and holdings and nothing else. It cannot place trades, move money, or change account settings, and you can revoke it at any time from the app or from E*TRADE.
If I disconnect E*TRADE, does my record get deleted?
No. Your record keeps everything up to the day you disconnect, and it shows the gap after that. Disconnecting never erases history, so you cannot use it to hide a bad stretch.
Does the record only show my winning trades?
No. The record covers the whole linked account, including stocks, options, and crypto, and it counts option contracts that expired worthless. Metrics are computed nightly from closed positions, so losers are in the figures too.
How much does it cost to verify my E*TRADE record?
Verification is free, permanently. You can link your brokerage and publish a verified record URL without paying. Selling VIP access is optional; if you do, PickVesting keeps 15% of VIP revenue and the rest is paid out through Stripe.
Can my followers copy my E*TRADE trades through PickVesting?
No. PickVesting does not place trades for anyone and does not offer copy trading. A follower's fill price differs from yours, and the record is proof of past results in your account, not a prediction or a trade-execution tool.
