Why Your Fill Won't Match the Trading Creator You Follow
Your fill price does not match the creator you follow because you are acting after their execution, not alongside it. By the time an idea reaches you, the creator has already been filled at a price that existed in the past, and the market has kept moving. On top of that, your own order meets its own spread, its own size, and its own moment of liquidity. The site says this plainly in the limits: a follower's fill price differs from the creator's, and a record never promises your execution.
This is not a defect to fix with the right setting. It is how markets work. Below is why the gap exists, what a verified record still does for you, and how to set expectations before you pay for anything.
A record documents their fill, not yours
A verified record on PickVesting is built from what happened inside a linked brokerage account, and nothing about it claims to control what happens in yours. The entry price attached to a published idea comes from the creator's brokerage fill, not from a text box they typed. That is the point: the position is the disclosure. But the same mechanism that makes their entry honest also makes it theirs. It is a historical fact about one account on one day, not a quote you can still trade on.
PickVesting does not place trades for anyone and does not offer copy trading. There is no execution layer sitting between the creator's account and yours. So when you open your broker and buy the same ticker, you are a separate participant entering a separate order into a live book.
Timing lag is structural
You see the idea after the creator's fill, which means the price you react to is already stale. The sequence is fixed:
- The creator places an order and gets filled at a real market price.
- The fill is reconciled into their record and the idea becomes visible.
- You read it, decide, and send your own order.
Every step takes time, and the market does not pause for any of them. On a quiet, deep name the drift between their fill and yours may be small. On a fast mover it can be large in either direction. Sometimes you get a better price than the creator. Often you do not. The honest expectation is that your entry is simply different, because you were never in the market at the same instant.
Slippage and liquidity change your price on the "same" ticker
Even setting timing aside, the same symbol does not mean the same fill, because your order meets its own spread and its own available liquidity. Several things pull your price away from any reference point:
- Spread. You often buy at the ask and sell at the bid. The gap between them is a cost you pay that a screenshot of a mid-price does not show.
- Size. A larger order can walk up or down the book, taking worse prices as it fills. Your size and the creator's size are rarely identical.
- Volatility. When a name is moving quickly, the quote you saw and the quote you get can be seconds and several ticks apart.
- Thin names. In low-volume or low-float tickers, a modest order moves the price more, and fills get unpredictable.
PickVesting leans on this reality in how ideas are allowed to publish at all. Ideas on stocks under $300M market cap, under 20M shares of float, or under 500K average daily volume are refused before they publish. That rule reduces the worst thin-name traps, but it does not promise you a clean fill. It only keeps the most illiquid names out of the idea feed.
Copy systems and manual VIP rooms both diverge
Whether a service automates entries or posts them in a chat, the follower's experience still drifts from the creator's, and PickVesting is neither of those things. It is helpful to separate three ideas that often get blurred together, which we cover in Verified Records vs Stock Picks vs Copy Trading: The Difference:
| What it is | What it does about your fill |
|---|---|
| An automated copy system | Mirrors trades, but your fill still differs by timing, size and routing |
| A manual VIP room | Posts ideas you execute yourself, so your fill is entirely your own |
| A PickVesting verified record | Documents the creator's fills; adds optional ideas and VIP; places no trades |
PickVesting is a verification layer with an optional inner circle, not an execution or copy layer. Verification is free and permanent: a creator can link a brokerage read-only through SnapTrade and publish a verified record URL without paying anything. Selling VIP access is optional, and when a creator does sell it, the payout runs through Stripe with PickVesting keeping 15% of VIP revenue. None of that changes the fundamental point. In every one of these models, the follower's fill differs from the creator's.
What a verified record still helps with
A verified record filters false claims about the creator's own book, which is a real and useful thing, even though it cannot clone your profit and loss. It answers questions that screenshots and streams cannot:
- Did these trades actually happen in a real brokerage account, or were they typed after the fact?
- What did the whole linked account do, including options and contracts that expired worthless, not just the winners?
- How long has the record been verified, and across how many closed positions?
Metrics are computed nightly from closed positions, and no figure appears on its own. Every return is shown next to how long the record has been verified and how many closed positions it covers. If you want the mechanics, How PickVesting Calculates Return, Win Rate, and Max Drawdown walks through it. The seal on an idea matters too: a green seal means a live brokerage link currently vouches for the position behind the idea, and a yellow seal means a demo account, test data, or a lapsed connection, with a line stating which. Green Seal vs Yellow Seal: How to Read Proof on a Trade Idea explains the difference.
What the record does is confirm the creator's history is real. What it does not do is deliver you their entry price.
What this still does not prove
A verified record proves what happened in the linked accounts. It does not prove what will happen in yours. Specifically:
- It does not predict the next trade or future results.
- It does not know your position size, your suitability, or your taxes.
- It says nothing about accounts that are not linked, which is why every profile states how many brokerage accounts are connected, so an unlinked account is a visible absence.
- It does not vouch for the quality of advice in a chat room.
- It does not make your fill match the creator's.
Practical expectations before you pay
Set expectations around the gap before money changes hands, and size for your own entry, never theirs. A few habits:
- Read max drawdown and sample size, not just return. A big number over three closed positions tells you less than a modest one over a long, verified history.
- Assume worse fills. Plan as if your spread, timing and size work against you, because frequently they will.
- Never size for their entry. If your plan only works at the creator's exact fill, it was never your plan. Size for the price you can actually get and the risk you can actually hold.
- Confirm the creator actually holds the position. How to Know a Trading Influencer Actually Holds the Stock covers how a held position becomes the disclosure, and reducing a published position within 48 hours is flagged for review.
Creators who are honest about this build more trust, not less. Saying "you will not get my fill" out loud is a mark of someone describing the market as it is.
Use verified records to evaluate the creator's history, not as a promise of matching fills. You can browse verified records on Discover and read the disclosures before you decide anything. Readers can follow for free, subscribe for ideas, or join VIP, and the fill you get is always your own.

Questions people ask
Does PickVesting copy the creator's trades into my account?
No. PickVesting does not place trades for anyone and does not offer copy trading. The brokerage connection is read-only and can read history and holdings only. You execute every order yourself in your own broker, which is one reason your fill differs from the creator's.
Can I get the same entry price as the creator if I act fast?
You will usually get a different price, not the same one. You see an idea only after the creator's fill is reconciled, so the price you react to has already moved. Your own spread, size and the market's volatility shift it further. Sometimes you do better, often worse, but it is a separate order.
Why does the entry price on an idea look like a firm number?
Because it is the creator's real brokerage fill, not a figure typed into a box. The position is the disclosure. That number is an accurate record of what the creator paid at that moment, not a quote you can still trade at when you read it.
Is it free to check a creator's record before I pay?
Yes. Verification is free and permanent, and reading a verified record costs nothing. Fees only apply if you choose to join a creator's optional VIP access, which is paid out through Stripe with PickVesting keeping 15% of that revenue.
Does a verified record mean the creator's trades are safe to copy?
No. A record proves what happened in the linked accounts and nothing more. It does not predict the next trade, does not know your suitability or size, and does not vouch for advice in a chat room. It documents their history; it does not clone your profit and loss.
